About Wernamo Design
Wernamo Design manufactures low-maintenance garden and outdoor products in metal, with a focus on durability and smart solutions. Their product range spans fences, deck railings, planting boxes, and stair railings, all manufactured for a Nordic climate. Since their founding, Wernamo has had a strong focus on e-commerce and direct online sales.
To improve customer confidence when buying online, customers needed to be able to configure and visualize their compositions on Wernamo Design’s website. For example, railing compositions consist of many components: posts of various kinds, sections, fasteners, and screws. It can be difficult to know which ones fit together. Without a configuration tool, this often required manual contact with sales to work out the right solution.
On behalf of Wernamo Design, Modelup built a 3D configurator that lets customers choose product, model, and dimensions and then add items directly to the cart.

Fences & deck railings
The customer selects a fence model and enters the dimensions for their fence or deck railing, seeing the result instantly in 3D. The configurator covers the full range of fence and railing models, ensuring the customer receives a complete list of products before ordering.

Section heights
Each section of the fence can be given an individual height, for example higher towards the neighbor for privacy and lower towards the lawn. The number of sections, posts, and center-to-center spacing is calculated automatically from the side’s length, so the customer only enters the total length of the side.

Gates
Being able to place openings and gates is an important part of planning a fence. The customer selects gate model, size, and placement from a wide range matched to the chosen fence model. The result is visible directly in the 3D view.

Stair railings
Planning stair railings by hand is difficult — lots of measurements and angles affect which products are needed. With the configurator, the customer can design a staircase connecting to the fence and get the right product solution automatically.

Plant Box
Plant Box is a metal planting box made up of modular components that can be combined freely. The configurator automatically assembles the right metal components for the sides and bottom, and places joints in a way that maximizes symmetry and efficiency for each given combination.

Results
Since the configurator launched, it has become a central tool in Wernamo Design’s digital sales. The configurator is linked from the homepage as the primary CTA, actively used in email campaigns to drive traffic and engagement, and internally by the sales team to quickly generate quotes for larger projects.
